  1. An expository essay is an essay that is to expose some idea, or to give a type of argument, to inform the reader. It usually is a five paragraph essay consisting of three main points, with a beginning introduction and an ending conclusion. The topic i would probably choose is "Why do teens listen to a certain type of music." I would pick this topic because it's a topic i would be comfortable in writing about. I think that today's generation focuses a lot on music itself. Today's class was good, I learned about MyReadingLab as well as making topics and outlining them correctly.

  2. The expository essay is a genre of essay that requires the student to investigate an idea, evaluate evidence, expound on the idea, and set forth an argument concerning that idea in a clear and concise manner. Essentially, expository essays are those that explain things with facts rather than opinions. The topic i would chose is how music affects your life because there are many things music can do in your life and not everyone can live without listening to music such as myself. Today's session was good overall. i learned more about completing outlines, cause and effect, and writing and revising drafts.

  3. Expository essay is a essay that describe things objectively and clarify evidence systematically. We can use logic order, time order, and space order to describe. Description methods are comparison and contract, definition, example, etc. A expository essay should be logical, creative and accurate. For this essay, I want to choose the topic that describe some non-material things that make me happy.
In today's class, I learned the organizing supporting, including listing, clustering and outlining. I also learned how to write the first draft that coherence and languages are very important. We can achieve coherence efficiently by using overall pattern, transitional terms, repetition of key words and important ideas, pronouns, and consistent point of view.

  4. An expository essay is an essay that shares and idea with logical support. A statement that has at least three supporting details that hold it true can become an expository essay. I would write an essay on "Why should you participate in clubs and organizations in college". I want to discuss this topic because we are in all college at the moment and it serves as excellent background information for a job. For as today's lesson, cluess and cgps will be a great tool for revising essays.

    2. Hey man, if you were to write your essay, I would like to read your essay about "why we should participate in clubs/college organizations" because i haven't joined a club yet. Maybe this essay will motivate me to do so.

    3. I like your topic. I would like to hear more about clubs and organization in college.

    4. Sharing ideas is a great way to expand our understanding of something. I would like to join an "International Friends" club, if there ever is such a thing so I could get to know a variety of students on campus. I like your idea about sharing thoughts in essays, Josh.

  5. An expository essay sounds like a critical-thinking essay to me. The essay challenges are persuade the reader in what they believe, think or feel about something specific. When thinking about how to write a piece in this format, I wonder how I might meet the criteria or what subject I could possibly use. As for the day's lesson, I really got a kick out of the expressive tones that we had to read. You have to be more creative in your writing when you can not use the typical text, chat, and social media languages.

    1. I agree, to catch the attention of the reader you must use your text in an interesting manner.

    2. I might use the topic, "why some people commit suicide". I had a best friend in the army that committed suicide. I was the last person to see him alive.

      Delete
    3. I am so sorry to hear that,Kyle. I do not know what to say anymore.

      Delete
    4. Wow! Suicide is a tough essay to write about ... so many feelings. I am so sorry you experienced that side of life, Kyle. To me, this would be an impossible essay to write about because there are too many emotions to cloud my judgment. I think it would be a very sad story. What about celebrating your friend's life?

    5. I came back here to read what topic I chose and I read your comments just now. Good idea Han, celebrating his life is a really positive approach to deal with his death. Do not worry Kim, it was a long time ago but thank you to the both of you.

    2. I agree as well it does need to engage the reader.

    3. I think an author's point of view in an expository essay cannot be avoided ... the author is doing the research and has a closer feel for the subject. The author can use other viewpoints to have the reader understand controversial subjects. I agree with you that the author should be neutral on the subject matter, but is that possible? Some subjects that inform just are not interesting ... maybe it's the author's style of writing?

  7. An expository essay requires the reader to analyze what the writer is writing, such as investigating an idea. This can be fulfilled by comparison and contrast. I would write about If you had to be an animal, which would you be and why? I picked this because I love animals! When I was in Bali I went to the Bali Safari and Marine Park, it was so fun and I got to see animals that I only see in books and on television. My experience there made me love animals even more. I would love to be a dolphin because i love the ocean and they're so cute!

  8. An expository essay is a genre of essay that requires a student to look further into an idea, evaluate evidence, expound on the idea, and set an argument concerning that idea in a clear manner. The topic I would choose is probably why some teens commit suicide because this is one thing that I would really like to prevent from happening. The session today was great again! I learned about the MRL, topics, refreshed my mind on outlining, and writing/revising drafts.

    1. I agree with you and I also want to stop suicide on Guam.

    2. I like your topic. I think that there should be more focus on suicide because with more people writing about it and giving more focus on it, in that way suicide can most likely be prevented. That paper would give a voice against suicide and why it should be prevented.

  9. An expository essay is basically a type of research paper. When writing an expository essay, you must observe and research on the particular topic you will write about. For this essay, I have decided to write about how the type of music I listen to has affected my life. I listen to almost any type of genre of music but the one genre I listen to the most is called Korean pop. I know this k-pop is not common for people my age but it is the genre that i like the most, and has affected my life in a good way. There are many reason why I choose this genre of music, but one an important reason why it has affected my life is that k-pop has gave me a better understand to different cultures.

As for today's activities, it was fun when we started to discuss the topic on tones and how the tone of person uses tells what mood they might be in. Overall, today was a good class for a monday.

  10. An expository(informative) essay excludes all opinion and gives factual information on the topic of discussion. I learned about this type of essay in my EN085 class. It is a five-paragraph essay. We need to write a thesis statement, three supporting details, and a conclusion. I may choose topic-"Explain how moving from place to place effects teens" for my expository essay. I choose this topic because there are big differences after I came to Guam.

    1. I love to hear how teens feel moving from place to place. I do not know how it's like since I have lived in one location my whole life.

    2. Moving from place to place creates a sense of just visiting instead of home. I know this feeling, as well. But, aren't we citizens of the world? I heard an expression the other day: Home is where you hang your hat. Home is a mindset. I love Guam and want to make the island my home, but I do want to travel and see the world. It's always a good feeling returning to your home, wherever that is. I look forward to reading your essay, Xia.
