  2. This really helped me and I found some common mistakes I have made in my past writing assignments. Although, I'm glad to have found this site because it will help me for future assignments. Today was a great class! Flew by really fast and it felt kind of awkward being in the classroom instead of the computer room but overall it was still fun.

  3. This resource about misused words and phrase is a great help. I can understand how the multiple words on the site can be misused because of when we say them out loud, they can sound similar. I have also made many of these mistakes of misusing words and I glad that this site exists. Today's went by quite fast but it was still informative enough when learning more about an style for outlines and expository essays.

  4. When I checked out the link for today’s class, “Common Mistakes & Tricky Choices,” I was amazed at how many confusing things there are in the English language. In China, my English instructors would always tell their students how the English language is so difficult. Now I see why: There are lots of rules and regulations. As I scrolled down, I looked into the “Fewer/Less” category and was immediately shown why fewer is used with countable nouns and less is not. But then money and time enter the picture, and the rules about fewer and less are changed. This shows how complex the English language is and that we always must be aware of these rules. In today’s class, I was taught how to write exemplification. Exemplification means using examples to explain, convince, or amuse. I learned the characteristics of good examples, techniques for finding examples, and number and order of examples. We reviewed the example of the all stage of writing process so that we understood how to do test #1.

    5. That is funny, I was told learning how to speak Chinese is really hard. I was told that in the Chinese language words can have different meaning depending on how you pronounce or the certain pitch of the person's voice. Not to mention kanji is also very complicated.

    6. I agree, I never actually saw it that way but the English language is pretty difficult.

  5. This resource is very useful. This will help with my writing in the future. I made these common mistakes when I wrote essays. I have also misused some words. I will use this source if i am not sure about the words I am using. What I learned today was analysis by division. I learned that almost anything can be analyzed by division. I enjoyed today's activity.

    1. I agree, analysing something can be easier when it is divided into several parts.

    2. What I did enjoy was writing with examples. This section has already helped me out.

    3. Keep up the good work Kim. Yes, analysis by division is really helpful since you break down the whole piece and critically think and organize the sections. Lets keep working on it.

    2. Josh,

You're most welcome! There's no doubt that English is a complicated language. Thus, it is a good idea to bookmark sites that you can use for future reference. Good for you!

      Best regards,
      Dr. Rivera

    3. I couldn’t agree with you more, Josh. The English language is very complex, like Chinese. In China, I learned some of the “Queen’s English,” which is very different than American-English. I also have problems with the labels of verb tenses, like past, past perfect tense and how to use them properly. It takes me forever …

    4. Very good idea Josh. I should save the site as well and use it for future reference. The english language can have words with different tenses and different definitions when used accordingly.

  7. I have found this resource very useful. I am so guilty with most of the words on here because I have used them on my previous essays. With good understanding and practice, we may improve on how to use these words properly. Today's class went by fast. Outlining sure could help me to not think too hard when writing an essay. It is better to write down points and brainstorm when you have time to do so.

    1. I must admit, Bryan, I do not like the outlining process. I find that when I really think about a subject to write about, then so much energy goes into it that I can kind of see the outline in my mind while I write. I know this may sound strange, but when I devote a lot of time to a subject, it seems like a movie is playing. I have not yet tried this on formal academic research papers, but I am hopeful it will work.

    2. Yes, I have had trouble with outlining on my essays. If I can get better at this stage of the writing process then my essays would be more organized and well written.

  8. I have also sometimes misuse words and phrases for my standard english. This resource site is very much helpful to me. I can use this site when i need help.

  9. This tool is actually really helpful if you know what word or phrase you are looking for. It holds incorrect and correct examples for you so that you can see how to properly use the writing technique. We should take advantage of this grammar tool. Today in class, the exercise with the major zones in the sea was fun. The exercise asked us to draw a picture of the major zones along with fishes and sea life, Joshua's drawing was betting than mine.

  10. The resource is very useful especially for English class essays. There are numerous examples I can review so I don't make those same mistakes. I even bookmarked the website to quickly refer to it. Class today was good, I learned how to outline better. I can easily apply this to the papers that I write.
